Introduction
The Gunalon processor, which uses the new Slot-G interface, isn't even officially out yet, and IMB
has already released its Slot-G to Socket450 convertor card. It looks like IMB certainly isn't taking
any chances in maintaining its market dominance and technological lead over its competitors. Today, we
look at IMB's Slot-G to Socket450 convertor card and see what it does, and how it performs.
Features
The IMB Slot-G to Socket450 convertor card doesn't have a lot of features, but it gets the job done.
Listed in its specifications are:
- 0.1V to 3.3V support
- Parallel out for parallel computing
Compatibility
This Convertor card is fully compatible with RMD's newly announced Gunalon processor. What it does is
allow a user with a Slot-G motherboard(for use with the Gunalon processor) to use previous generation
processors like the Azlon, Izzudon and Prashon. Why a user might want to do that, we don't know, but
it looks like this convertor does what it says it does. Of course, this card is also compatible with
IMB's own Model M motherboard.
Connection
The IMB convertor card has an interesting parallel connector, that IMB claims is for parallel
computing. This parallel connector connects to another IMB convertor card so that you may use multiple
CPUs for parallel multiprocessing! You can currently daisy chain up to 8 convertor cards, and IMB
has stated that a later driver revision will allow up to 32 convertor cards(number of convertor cards
possible is also limited by space limitations, and may vary).
Conclusion
IMB has come through again with an innovative product that caters to a specific market of Slot-G
motherboard owners with previous generation CPUs. Its pretty much the only product of its kind in the
market right now, so users in this situation would probably be interested in this product.
